MADAMFO GHANA FOUNDATION HANDED OVER ESSENTIAL FACILITIES TO DZILAKOPE AND SURROUNDING AREAS

The Dzilakope community, a small island in the Krachi West Municipality of the Oti Region, has long faced difficulties in accessing quality healthcare and education. For residents, obtaining basic necessities like medical care and schooling was a major challenge, typically requiring hours of travel across the lake. However, this situation is now improving for the community. The Madamfo Ghana Foundation, a non-governmental organization, has handed over essential facilities to Dzilakope and surrounding areas, including a 6-unit classroom block, a Community Health Planning and Services (CHIP) compound, nurses’ quarters, and teachers’ quarters. This handover represents a significant milestone, bringing quality education and healthcare within reach of the islanders. The event attracted a good number of chiefs and people from neighbouring island communities, as well as educationists from the Krachi West Municipality. Mr. Enock Sunday Atipo, Deputy Country Director of the Madamfo Ghana Foundation, explained that the foundation’s intervention was prompted by the extreme difficulties faced by the people of Dzilakope and its environs in accessing quality healthcare and education. He noted that the communities were already deprived of basic social amenities, and lack of education and healthcare would have compounded their problems, which is why the Madamfo Ghana Foundation stepped in to help.Mr. Prosper Kwaku Addo, Municipal Chief Executive Officer for the Krachi West Municipality, urged parents in the area to view education as the key to their children’s future and to ensure they attend school, as there is now no excuse to keep them at home.Mr. Agbesi Simon, former Presiding Member for the Krachi West Municipality, expressed deep gratitude to the Madamfo Ghana Foundation for their timely intervention. He recalled that the Dzilakope community had lost many young, energetic individuals due to lack of access to healthcare, with some dying while seeking medical care elsewhere.
